Bridging the Gap with Bright Young Talent
I had a great time at an University of Iowa job fair which I attended with Tammy Shull, our HR manager, on Tuesday. We met many impressive students. In particular, I was impressed with the recognition in the university programs and students of the value of cross-discipline skills. It's sometimes hard enough to gain expertise in one narrow discipline. Even more valuable are people who can bridge the paradigm and communication gap between different disciplines.
Wanted: people with both the artistic and technical ability to build or supervise the building of an interactive web site that both looks and functions great.
Wanted: people with business, financial, and technical expertise to specify and build information systems that effectively serve the real needs of the organization and contribute to the bottom line.
The students I met on Tuesday are well on their way!
